Overall I thought this was a good book, but not one that I will likely read again or remember a lot about in the future. The expectation of a lack of resolution - a repeat of what has happened in all the previous books - could make many lost interest in the last quarter of the book. Why had her son been traveling to Cambridge by car, when she’d bought him a train ticket only a couple of days before? I have done nothing all week apart from reading all four of them and my house is now in dire need of a good dust and hoover. The real tragedy is the author's tendency to overuse the tricks that appeared charming earlier: Archer simply cannot stay away from cliff-hanger votes (in company board meetings this time) or in an unfinished book ending.

Each character has their own agenda and through a series of complex machinations Archer builds disparate segments of the story which come together in a rather dramatic fashion. There's one heartbreaking loss that totally took me by surprise and reminded me why I love Archer's writing so much.in " The BookBrowse Review" - BookBrowse's membership magazine, and in our weekly " Publishing This Week" newsletter. Owen nodded, and the mortician pulled back the sheet to reveal a scarred and battered face that Emma recognized immediately.

Emma bowed her head and burst into tears, wishing, as Harry had suggested, that she’d allowed him to carry out the unbearable task. He is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (nineteen times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries).I don't recommend reading this book as a standalone novel because you would miss out on some of the history of the drama that is always in high gear in this epic family drama. Be Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry Clifton and his wife Emma rushing to hospital to learn the fate of their son Sebastian, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. I'm so disappointed with this book that it's heartbreaking for me, especially since Jeffrey Archer is one of my favourite authors.

The fourth novel in the Clifton Chronicles series picks up minutes where the “Best Kept Secret” left. The Clifton Chronicles, a series of seven novels published between 2011-2017, topped the bestseller lists around the world. Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries, and is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (twenty times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). There will be seven books in the Clifton Chronicles instead of the initial five as was earlier intended.Marsden switched on the ignition, shifted the gear lever into first and set out on the long journey from the Manor House to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. Another component that stands out is Jessica’s lineage as her adopted parents Harry and Emma have not made her aware of who her parents were which leads to complications. Mabel has packed an overnight case for you, madam,” he stammered, “and if you’ll allow me, I’ll drive you to the hospital.

The Clifton family saga has turned out to be a masterful mix of fiction in a factually correct world, quirks of logical people and speedy action backed by a lot of thought. No family saga is without a villain, this book has a good one, a well-drawn and believable character. The only thing that surpasses their bad deeds in prosaicness is the banality of the good guys' response despite all their wealth, connections and state power. Any "Author Information" displayed below reflects the author's biography at the time this particular book was published.

After leaving Oxford he was elected to the Greater London Council, and three years later at the age of 29, he became Member of Parliament for Louth. I'm totally hooked on the series and have been listening to it in audio, narrated by Alex Jennings, who is phenomenal.
