One has an image of a garden gate, and the other has an image of a person sleeping in a bed, with a huge thought/dream bubble above them. This book might be better for someone working with adults who have some pretty hefty issues in their past but even so, I find the activities encourage rumination and negativity. This revised and updated second edition also contains a new section on how to use the superbly emotive The Emotion Cards to facilitate deeper therapeutic conversations. Offers opportunities to rehearse other ways of functioning by trying out alternatives safely on paper in exercises which can be adapted for any age range and ability.

The book also offers opportunities to rehearse other ways of functioning by trying out alternatives safely on paper. There are only one or two pages I find even remotely appropriate for working with school aged children (or anyone, for that matter). Our trainees find the Draw On books very helpful in training and then also with their children - not just those children identified for special help. This manual contains a series of structured "easy to do" picture exercises to help people of all ages express, communicate and deal more effectively with their emotions in everyday life. There may be something said for catharsis but there's no hint of focusing on a client's strengths in this book, which is what I'd hoped for.

A very useful A 4 book for people working with children and young people with social/emotional problems. The addition of the cards will help adults open the conversation with children/young people about difficult feelings. She is a First Prize award winning author, with 20 books in child mental health, published in nineteen countries.

This wonderful resource removes the stigma associated with poor literacy problems by allowing students to access situations via visual means.

She is a British Medical Association award winning author and has published over twenty books, which collectively have been translated into 18 languages and published in 24 countries. There are worksheets for many different feelings and emotions with useful guidelines on issues to raise with each each sheet which can be photocopied and used to build up a folder for the child/young person. The Emotion Cards are 48 emotive and artistic images designed to help people to review their emotions and their relationships in a meaningful and often transformative way. A tool that I’d recommend to every practitioner to use in counselling and psychotherapy independent of their preferred modality. Dr Margot Sunderland is Director of Education and Training at The Centre for Child Mental Health London, Honorary Visiting Fellow at London Metropolitan University and Integrative Child Psychotherapist, Supervisor and Trainer with over two decades of experience in working with adults, teenagers and children.

They can help promote a new clarity of thought as a first step towards positive action and bring seemingly huge, unmanageable and insoluble problems into a new perspective.Offering a broad range of exercises which can be adapted for any ability or age from middle childhood onwards, this unique book explores a range of emotions surrounding a person¹s important life experiences, key memories, relationships, best times, worst times and who they are as a person. The cards are designed to capture the deeper truth of how people experience their life, offering poignant descriptions for what someone may be feeling. There are activities in this book that seem to be designed to completely break a client down emotionally before building them back up again. In my work, the directives I have found most helpful include pages for strength building, psycho-education and anger awareness/management.
