Let’s start with the fact I have actually listened to this via Audiobook via my Spotify Premium account, this is only the 2nd Audiobook I have ever listened to. I need you to be here, on this spot right here, between these tents, the red one and the blue one, the one with tassels and the flagpole . I like Fat White Family, one of the best live bands around, with a relentless rhythm always good entertainment so I was well up for this book. From the mountains of Algeria to the squats of South London via sectarian Northern Ireland, Ten Thousand Apologies is the sordid and thrilling story of the country’s most notorious cult band, Fat White Family.

Look, whatever happens over the remainder of this weekend, we might get separated, our phones will die . When we arrived on the Saturday afternoon, neither of us having slept for two days, we made our way straight up to his tent round the back of the Park Stage. The book covers an expansive period of time, ranging from Lias' youth in various towns, such as Cookstown and Knocknacarra, to his drug addled time spent within The Fat White Family. The publishers described it as “the sordid and thrilling story of the country’s most notorious cult band. No, but we've got crystal meth, you'll have to trek up the hill for a hit though, it’s frowned upon down here,’ replied the Landlord.Like a good documentary, a good music book will get you interested in an artist who you previously had no interest in. The writing and tone give the genuine sense of an narrator that does not think they are a “good” or “right” person, and that was more refreshing than I can explain. If you’re doing drugs, the difference between smack and coke seems vast and obvious; if you’re not, such actions seem completely mad.

Ten Thousand Apologies, with its detailed descriptions of fuck-ups and come-downs, of opportunities missed and decisions untaken, isn’t going to change this reputation. Nigeyb makes a good point about this book, “It involves a spectacular amount of drug taking and a wanton disregard for anything approaching professionalism. Grim, too, is Saul’s south London childhood: bullied, suicidal, defiant, he ends up, aged 14, in a boarding school for troubled youths. Nathan, a Marvin Gaye man through and through who didn't really give a shit about the Fall, back then at least, saw an opening. At its center are the two Saoudi boys, Lias and Nathan, whose upbringing across Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Algeria, and London forms the surprising highlight of the book, as well as Saul Adamczewski, whose prodigious musical talent is matched only by his prodigious drug habit.
