Description

On first pour we have an baked apple and orange citrus rich fruit blast, a good pinch of pepper and ginger. So, this is moderately aged rye whiskey, but none of the lavishly matured 21-year-old stuff comprising the Rocky Mountain Rye that garnered such high praise from John. Palate: At first sip soft dark cherry, plum and raspberry tones are impressed upon the center of the tongue.

Coyle said that there was a desire to trim, simplify and expand the brand’s line-up, which meant discontinuing Yippee Ki-Yay – another popular limited release – rebranding its core Bourbon and changing many of the blend recipes to include High West’s own-make rye. Each and every Member must be of legal drinking age in its country of residence to be allowed to use the Service. In recent years, High West has transitioned Rendezvous to a blend of MGP (95 percent rye, 5 percent malted barley) and in-house distillate (80 percent rye, 20 percent malted rye).

Consider this, too: with rye whiskey being needed to be aged in new oak, this is like a new oak whiskey finished in French oak and ex-port.

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. Ah - deep inhales begin to layer in more creaminess here as vanilla knocks over the baking spice rack. Sure, the Shakespeare inspiration has its part to play in that, but I also really enjoy the melange of fruit, spice, and rye that High West manages to put together year after year in this bottle.

I liken it to how one might imagine Norse mythology evolved over time through verbal storytelling, some of the characters getting misplaced at times, but the core of the lore maintaining its roots and values. I’m probably earning a reputation as a scourge of sourced whiskey, but I hope the uncoerced purchase of this bottle will assuage any concerns about my impartiality. They throw us a bone a little bit later on, indicating that this is comprised of whiskey with a 95% rye, 5% barley mash bill from MGP, plus whiskey with an 80% rye, 20% malted rye mash bill from High West. d) the right to license, use, sell, archive, reproduce, distribute, modify, perform, publish, create derivative works from, offer for sale, or use of the Service. I can definitely see why there might be notions that there are variations where there are not when exploring whiskey because the measurement instrument (you and your palate) are in fact not calibrated for consistency.

On first sip, flavors undulate between rye spice, sweet port, and chocolate so quickly and frequently it’s tough to get a read — but it’s altogether very pleasant if you relax and let yourself enjoy the ride. All discussions and reviews of Bourbon, Rye, or any American Whiskey are welcome and encouraged (yes, even Jack), as well as any news articles or bourbon-related internet things. Undulations between dry baking spices like black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove are perfectly reminiscent of a Christmas dinner spent with family. They also mention that this is the same precursor blend as High West Rendezvous Rye, which is itself described by High West as “a blend of older Straight Rye whiskeys ranging in age from 4 to 7 years. Sipping back and forth reveals just how much of a dingus I am, because these whiskeys are damn near identical.

I do miss just a little of complexity from the rye at this point, and it’s impossible not to think back to some of the first Midwinter releases where the old Rendezvous Rye blend carried its weight with strength throughout the entire pour. I'm going to do my best to keep an open mind here and try to throw out any hypothesis that may lead to input bias, but admittedly we're all a little susceptible to that regardless of cognizant effort. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. On the nose: The initial impression is of caramelized brown sugar meeting a gentle note of dill, the latter being a telltale sign of MGP whiskey.
